There seems to be a website, Military Mascots, that helps to bring soldiers bring animal mascots back home that they found during their tours.

Apparently, the site is currently down, but I’ll check back.
As I dug a little bit further into the topic, I found that in 2002, there were at least 9 official mascots in the British Army:
2 goats
2 Shetland Ponies
1 black buck
1 drum horse 1 Wolf Hound
1 ram
and
1 ferret.
Note: The ferret is not a charge to the public funds, as it is fed and… clothed… by its regiment.
I am lucky enough to know one unofficial mascot of the British Army. His name is Lennox and he currently lives in Germany

Now I realize exactly WHY they don’t call it war anymore but prefer the expression “peace keeping mission”… Who could be afraid of this fella?
I like the photo with the soldier. could be a good pressphoto to be honest
